We are pleased to announce a brand-new strategic partnership between hub101.earth and Integrated Development and Learning (IDL) Liberia.

IDL Liberia is a Liberian NGO that promotes integrated development in rural Liberia, by bringing community organisations, local governments, farmers and other social groups together to plan and implement development projects. The IDL balances social, environmental and economic considerations, driving change through agricultural and forest-friendly enterprises, improves forest and land governance, and empowering all stakeholders to work together. Over the past twenty years, IDL (previously IDH Liberia program) has helped communities with land rights, land use governance and sustainable management of natural resources including forests.

Yuejia Peng, Founder and Managing Director of hub101.earth says: “we are very impressed with the long-term impactful and community-oriented work IDL Liberia has been doing on the ground. Nature conservation and improved land management need to go hand-in-hand with better livelihoods for locals and other development goals. IDL’s work shows that this is possible – something we really need to see more of across many developing countries. We are delighted about this partnership and look forward to learning from IDL’s expertise and working towards our shared goals.”

Silas Siakor, Executive Director of IDL Liberia and recipient of the 2006 Goldman Environmental Prize for Africa, says: “Liberia holds half of the remaining forest in West Africa’s Upper Guinea ecoregion, a globally recognized biodiversity hotspot, and communities own two-thirds of Liberia’s forests, yet the people live in extreme poverty. Conservation efforts have not delivered meaningful socio-economic development benefits for many rural Liberians, that is why our work to empower communities and put them at the centre of efforts to protect Liberia’s forests and manage their land sustainably is critical. We are therefore excited about our partnership with hub101.earth to amplify our mission.”
